Killing time at a dealership

I always find it amusing when dealerships (or any service, for that matter) force you to make an appointment, then still cause you to wait for them to "get to it". I'm currently sitting at the VW dealership waiting for the summer tires to go on my Golf and my car hasn't moved since I got here for my 5 PM appointment. Obviously there is a lot involved in scheduling but it'd be nice if there were enough technicians to handle cars at the assigned time.

EDIT problem solved: reading Stig's book!

Couldn't any tire shop do that? Seems like a bad reason to go to the dealership.

Ask if you can test drive their cars while you wait, maybe they'll speed up the process!

I did the same thing a couple weeks ago...showed up with my summers in the trunk and just needed a quick swap during my lunch break.

They were busy and it took longer than expected so they cut the bill in half. And I got ice cream.

See if you can get one of the two options above.

I just went to Target, and did it. Except I just rotated.

You're right. This is the dealership I bought my car from so they stored the winters free of change but in the future I'll definitely have them switched closer to home.

Certainly made things better.

Also answered the "what would you do for a Klondike bar" question...I would wait at a dealership.

I was at my local VW place today for a check engine light. Scheduled for 8am. 10am they tell me whats wrong with, and that it will be approximately 4 hours. Finally left around 3pm.

Looks like you'll be getting a new set of tires, everything went better than expected?

I'm waiting for a phone call today to find out but since the tires are already mounted on VW sport rims, I'm not holding out for anything more than free installation.
